$2.50 Common Date Gold Coins

U.S. $2.50 “Quarter Eagle” gold coins were minted in two standout designs: the Liberty Head (Coronet) series from 1840–1907 and the Indian Head series from 1908–1929. The Liberty Head quarter eagle is a classic 19th-century gold type, and, unlike the $5 and $10, it never carried “IN GOD WE TRUST,” since that motto wasn’t required on this denomination. The Indian Head quarter eagle, designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, is famous for its incuse (sunken) design, one of the most distinctive looks in all U.S. coinage.
