$5 Common Date Gold Coins

U.S. $5 "Half Eagle" gold coins were struck in two beloved designs: the Liberty Head (Coronet) series from 1839–1908 and the Indian Head series from 1908–1929 (with a final issue in 1933, though most were not released). The Liberty Head half eagle is a long-running classic, with the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” added in 1866, creating “No Motto” and “With Motto” types that collectors like to compare. The Indian Head half eagle, by Bela Lyon Pratt ,features an incuse (sunken) portrait and reverse, making it one of the most distinctive U.S. gold designs ever minted.
