$20 Common Date Gold Coins

U.S. $20 gold “Double Eagles” were minted in two iconic designs: the Liberty Head (Coronet) Double Eagle (1850–1907) and the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle (1907–1933). The Liberty Head, designed by James B. Longacre, gained the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” in 1866, creating the popular “No Motto” and “With Motto” types. The Saint-Gaudens, created by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, is famed for its dramatic striding Liberty and is often called the most beautiful U.S. coin design, with the rare 1907 High Relief issue as a standout. The series ends with the legendary 1933 date, most of which were never officially released due to the U.S. gold recall.
